Seeing things from the both sides is Lloyd Major, co-founder of Halo Solutions Ltd, who joins Ellan and Jack this week to talk about how his career with the Police paved the way to working in the events industry.
Lloyd joined the Nottinghamshire Police Force straight from college, which is where he got his first taste of working in events, supporting event organisers in creating plans to protect the public. After several years sitting on one side of the Safety Advisory Group table, he switched over to the other side when he left the Force and started working in the private sector, planning public safety at events like the Cricket World Cup. This eventually led him to develop the Halo “control room replacement” technology and forming a tech start-up with his business partner.
Lloyd talks about his experiences working in the operational planning unit, moving into Public Order at public events – which is where he first got the events bug – and his time with the National Counter-Terrorism Unit in London.
Every day is a school day in events and Lloyd says he never stops learning – and he’s loving every minute of it. Knowing that you don’t need to have an answer for everything, he believes “the most important voice in the room is the voice of dissent” and encourages everyone to be confident in what you know.
